After 24 hours, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's personal physician Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain told that it may be embarrassing to comment on the physical condition of the BNP Chief before 24 hours.

He gave this information to reporters at the gate of Evercare Hospital in the capital on Sunday (June 23) night.

Zahid Hossain said Begum Khaleda Zia's latest condition is that, today, a temporary pacemaker has been set first and then a permanent pacemaker will be set. Today, she is currently under close observation in the Critical Care Unit(CCU) under the supervision of doctors. If the next 24 hours are not gone, it may become embarrassing to make any kind of statements and comments about her physical condition. Therefore, I wish prayers to the countrymen on behalf of her family, party and Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman.

He said, 'She was transferred to Evercare Hospital on the advice of his medical board doctors in a very critical condition last Friday. Later (till now) she is under treatment in CCU. By consensus of the doctors, her heart function had reached a point where she had three blocks - you know. I kept saying that anything can happen at any time. That incident was going to happen last Friday night. In that situation, the members of the medical board quickly brought her to the hospital. They started her treatment accordingly.

Four countries of the European Union, Italy, Germany, Greece and Romania will take three thousand workers from Bangladesh, said the Foreign Minister and Awami League's joint general secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud.

He said this to reporters after the farewell meeting of European Union Ambassador Charles Whiteley at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Segunbagicha in the capital on Sunday (July 14).

Dr. Hasan said, depending on the skills of these 3,000 workers, the EU ambassador also informed about the possibility of hiring more workers in the future. Also, after Bangladesh is upgraded from a least developed country to a middle income country in 2026, it has been discussed that the other benefits we get from the EU including GSP or tariff reduction benefits for our products will continue till 2032.

The Minister told reporters about the second retreat conference of foreign ministers of BIMSTEC countries held on July 11-12 in New Delhi, the capital of India, that climate change, medical care, assistance in the energy security sector and increasing the use of green energy through hydropower generation in Nepal and Bhutan were discussed at the retreat.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the BIMSTEC Summit will be held in Thailand on September 4. Bangladesh will take responsibility as the next chair of BIMSTEC there.

On the sidelines of the retreat, Minister Hasan said about the bilateral meeting with the Foreign Ministers of India and Myanmar, the issue of fixing the quota for the import of perishable goods for Bangladesh came up again in the discussion with the Indian Foreign Minister. Dispatch of technical team on Teesta, inclusion in BRICS and Joint Consultative Committee were discussed. Besides, the Foreign Minister of Myanmar said that they want to start the repatriation of Rohingya. But that was after the current situation in Rakhine became normal.

When asked about the ongoing quota reform movement, the foreign minister said that the issue of quota came through the court. The government was sympathetic to the students and canceled the entire quota. The High Court upheld it, the Supreme Court stayed it. Quota is a pending matter in court. For that reason, the government cannot give any decision on it. Then it will be contempt of court. It should be resolved through the courts.

Dr. Hasan said, I don't think the current movement is justified. It is actually an extension of the court. The government has always been sympathetic towards the students. That is why the quota system was abolished. However, many problems have arisen in the wake of the cancellation. As many cadres from many districts are not getting opportunities, the participation of girls has decreased - these problems have arisen.

In response to the question whether BNP is trying to take advantage of the quota movement or not, Foreign Minister Hasan said that BNP always wants to destabilize the country. They do not have the power to do anything; they sit on the shoulders of others. Sometimes relying on quotas, sometimes relying on oil and gas, sometimes relying on something else. BNP is also trying to take advantage of the quota movement. Following the recent decision of the Appellate Division, which has ordered  to maintain the status quo. In other words, the Appellate Division has upheld the quota which was canceled by the government. However, when there is a movement, it should be understood that politics is associated with it.

The High Court has declared the circular invalidating the quota system in the government jobs of ninth to 13th grade (first and second class) including freedom fighters.

On Sunday (July 14), the High Court bench consisting of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat published the full 27-page verdict.

Earlier, on June 5, the High Court declared invalid the decision to cancel the first and second class freedom fighter quota system in government jobs. Then on June 9, the state filed an application to suspend the judgment of the High Court. On that day, the Chamber Court sent this application to the Appellate Division for hearing.

On July 4, a six-judge Appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan declared the decision to cancel the freedom fighter quota system in the first and second class of government jobs invalid and ordered the High Court's judgment to be upheld for the time being. Later on July 10, the Appellate Division stayed the judgment of the High Court for four weeks.

Meanwhile, the students started anti-quota movement after the decision of the High Court declaring the decision to cancel the quota illegal. The students have been blocking roads, highways and railways in various parts of the country since last week with four-point demands including canceling the quota system in government jobs and reinstating the 2018 circular. 'Bangla Blockade' started from Sunday. Many main roads of the capital are closed for several hours a day. The same is the case with various highways and railways. People are suffering from it.

The representatives of the protesting students demanding reform of the quota on Sunday also gave a memorandum to President Md. Sahabuddin. They said they want to see visible action on their one-point demand within 24 hours. They have also submitted that request to the President.

The students have made a one-point demand to pass a law in the Jatiyo Sangsad with a maximum quota of 5 percent (children of freedom fighters, minority ethnic groups and disabled) in all grades in government jobs.

Earlier, around 12 noon, the agitating students took out a procession under the banner of 'anti-discrimination student movement' in front of the Dhaka University library. Proceeding through Shahbagh and Matsya Bhawan, the students' march broke the police barricade at Shiksha Adhikhar Chatwar and Zero Point and took a stand on the road in front of Gulistan Shopping Complex. This stopped the traffic in Gulistan area.
