The proposed budget for the financial year 2024-25 cannot be called people-friendly, because of indirect taxes, the tax burden on people's heads will increase. Leader of opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader commented that there is no way for the emancipation of the people.

He responded in front of the media persons next to the Jatiya Sangsad tunnel after announcing the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday (June 6).

Jatiya Party Chairman said that Tk. 5 lakh 45 thousand 400 crores of revenue has been shown. 62 percent is direct tax, the rest is indirect tax. This has increased the tax burden on the common people. Inflation is unlikely to come down. Income tax is only 36 percent, import duty is 10.3 percent, VAT is 38.1 percent and supplementary duty is 13.8 percent. We do not see any initiative to save the poor people.

Lack of environment will not increase foreign investment; it will not create job opportunities. Bangladesh will face a major economic crisis after this budget. The budget has been conventional nothing special beyond what has happened in the past few years. There is an economic crisis in the country. Inflation, prices of goods are increasing every day. There is unemployment problem. Foreign exchange is more than what is being earned, is being spent. Reserves are decreasing every day. This is reducing the price of our money. He commented that any steps or initiatives to overcome them are being targeted in this budget.

GM Quader said that the budget has been made at Tk. 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. Operating expenses are Tk. 5 lakh 6 thousand 171 crores. And the development cost is Tk. 2 lakh 81 thousand 453 crores. Income is much less than expenditure. The revenue shown is Tk. 5 lakh 45 thousand 400 crores. There is a deficit of Tk. 2 lakh 51 thousand 6 crores. The deficit is being met through domestic and foreign loans. Loan installments are being paid with the loan. After paying interest from Tk.1 lakh 27 thousand crore foreign debt, we can use Tk. 90 thousand 700 crore.

He said that Tk. 1 lakh 60 thousand 900 crores of domestic debt has to be done. Operating expenses and borrowings are being done. Domestic debt interest is Tk. 93 thousand crores and foreign debt interest is Tk. 20 thousand 500 crores. Borrowing now has interest to be paid in the future.

He also said that what the government is saying is corruption or shame. The government says 30,000 MW of generation capacity has been created. In practice 13 to 15 thousand MW can be used. Load shedding has to be done only when 15 to 16 thousand MW is required. Load shedding is going on across the country. After 15,000 additional 15,000 megawatts are not being produced, but capacity charges are being paid. In the name of capacity charge, Tk. 1 lakh 37 thousand crore have been installed in all those plants. The causes of people's loss are being shown in a profitable way. However, still not everyone is getting electricity, gas. The government has given importance to the import of gas but has not taken the initiative of production. We have to pay a huge amount. Our energy security is very much under threat.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that the proposed budget is anti-national.

He said this in an immediate reaction while talking to the media persons in front of the BNP Chairperson's political office at Gulshan in the capital on Thursday (June 6) afternoon.

Fakhrul said, it has become a country of robbers. The government has become a looter. What would the looters budget for?

He said, this is what I see, a new robbery is planned. That is, in the so-called budget, the expenditure is much higher than the income. In places where income share is being shown, all the burden falls on the common people and what they do to meet the expenses will also fall on the common people.

Mirza Fakhrul said that grants or loans are being brought from abroad, and loans will be taken from the banks. It all depends on people. People can no longer carry this load. Inflation has skyrocketed. The increase in the price of food items is not sustainable. A few days ago petrol-diesel, electricity prices increased, now they will increase again with the budget.

The agreement with the IMF will increase four times every year. We are paying this money for; everyone knows that there is theft in the electricity sector. From Quick Rentals to Adani, all from India have made the pockets heavy. Where is the Rooppur plant now and the Rooppur plant is not progressing at all. Where did the work of Payra port flyover, elevated expressway - very good talk. But in any way you are solving the problems of common people, people are not able anymore, many people are leaving the city and moving to the village. Because they are not able to survive in Dhaka city anymore,' he said.

BNP Secretary General also said that the biggest problem in this budget is that there is nothing to create employment here. The entire budget is spent on mega projects, mega theft and mega corruption. I will not call this budget anti-people, it is an anti-Bangladesh budget.

In this budget, 15 percent VAT has been imposed on laundering black money and 30 percent VAT has been imposed on legitimate earnings. Nothing happens here to those who do wrong.

He said, 'How can a government official create thousands of crores of wealth, how can a former army chief create so much wealth that the workers could not go to Malaysia, why could not because of the government's failure. It happened due to the  extreme failure of administration.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has commented that two important officials of the Prime Minister's Office were fired after receiving information about the 'misdeeds' before the news was published in the media.

He said this in response to questions from journalists at a press conference at the Awami League President's political office on Wednesday (May 29) evening.

Obaidul Quader said in response to the question of the journalists whether the government would take any initiative to inquire about those who I think are civil like Benazir Ahmed, "Today the contract of two important persons of the Prime Minister's Office has been cancelled. Have you journalists reported on that? You are getting it now. .”

When asked if there are allegations of corruption against them, he said, "I don't know whether there are any allegations of corruption against them. Surely there has been some kind of deviation in their duty. I don't know what it is."

The last government needs Benazir and Aziz Ahmed. So the government is taking action against them, when asked about the allegations of BNP, he said, "Your question is not correct, they are saying that Benazir, Aziz Ahmed are the creation of Awami League. I want to know who created Ashraful Huda, Rakibul Huda, Kohinoor. I want to know. , want to answer the question of who created the fleet of corruption looting?

"Questioned, I am also asking the question, Rakibul Huda was the former IGP, he had targeted and attacked during our leader's meeting on January 24 in Chattogram. Everyone knows Ashraful Huda's corruption. Ashraful Huda created them, have they tried? Benzir was our IGP during the Awami League period."

He said, "Now it's his matter... Now it's everyone's personal matter. We can't blame an institution. When the matter came to light, the ACC is investigating. After the investigation, a case will be filed. Whoever has committed the crime, should be punished as much as the misdeed." will be

"During the period of BNP, any of their leaders, any government officials, any of the former police officers, any of them...have they been prosecuted for developing a culture of impunity? Sheikh Hasina has honest courage, that's why she has zero tolerance for corruption today whenever it is revealed. Getting... those who committed misdemeanors during the Corona period, but our leader did not forgive them. Even today, they must be punished according to the crime, there is no exemption here."

In response to the question whether Awami League has any responsibility or not, he said, "I am talking about Benazir, Benazir's career, his personality, none of you from outside thought about what is being heard now. You did not think, nobody thought. Aziz Ahmed is very discreet officer. He has some degree that other army chiefs don't have. Now if he gets corruption information, he will not be exempted. That's all I can say."

Awami League Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan and others were also present.
