BNP Standing Committee member Begum Selima Rahman alleged that dictator Sheikh Hasina is not sitting quiet in India, but is trying to conspire in various ways.
She said this while speaking as the chief guest at the financial support and discussion meeting organized by the Zia Prajanma Dal at National Press Club on Friday (September 13).
The leader of this standing committee of BNP said that even after getting independence, our movement is going on because still the friends of dictator are not sitting quietly. They are trying to create chaos and encirclement by provocation at various places. India opened the Farakka Dam without any prior warning and flooded the northern region. Neighboring countries continued their conspiracies in various ways. That's why there is no division, everyone should be united.
Selima Rahman said that everyone including Bangladeshi students and politicians took the field in the quota reform movement because the dictatorial government must be overthrown. For the past 15 years, people have not been able to speak. The young generation became voters but could not vote. By repeatedly coming to power without a vote, the illegitimate government has kicked the people in the stomach. Tyrant stayed in power by torture. Students brutally killed mobs just to retain power. After the murder, the body was set on fire. Many children have lost their fathers. How do they survive? Many BNP leaders and workers have given their lives in the last 17 years in the movement to restore democracy. We got freedom at the cost of many sacrifices. Salute to them and paying deep respect to the deceased.
Shee said that when the quota reform movement started, BNP leaders and workers were first arrested and tortured. Law and order forces subjected them to inhuman torture in prison. In the last 17 years, the direct government has used the state forces to commit one crime after another. Awami League government has smuggled money abroad in the name of development. Banks are being robbed. Selima Rahman called on all the forces to recover illegal weapons and said who is helping the murderers to go to India. Find them out.
This senior BNP leader said that BNP's 31-point framework has all the proposals for state reform. This outline was given a year and a half ago. The proposal was that a person cannot be prime minister for more than two terms. A bi-cameral parliament will be formed and the parliament will be elected by popular vote. It will be implemented by the national government in the future.
Assuring that we will provide all kinds of support to the interim government, she added that our goal is to ensure only one right to vote. An elected government is needed to ensure people's rights who will be accountable to the people. But BNP never once said that they should be brought to power. Now it is not a slogan, but the constructive work of the state must be done. Tariq Rahman should be brought back to the country to build a beautiful and future Bangladesh.
Selima Rahman alleged that Khaleda Zia was slowly poisoned in jail to kill her. Today she is so sick that there is no way to send her by plane for two and a half hours abroad. Doctors are monitoring her physical condition. She fought with life and death but did not compromise with the government. If she had compromised, she could have become the prime minister long ago.
