No arrest of government officials without evidence: Police HQ

The names of the accused in the July-August killings of anti-discrimination student activists will be withdrawn if no involvement is found in the preliminary investigation. At the same time, the police headquarters also said that no government official-employee can be arrested without evidence.

This instruction was given in a letter sent from the organization on Tuesday (September 10).

Later the letter signed by DIG Qamrul Ahsan was faxed to the officer-in-charge of every police station across the country.

Police Headquarters DIG (Confidential) Md. Qamrul Ahsan said that according to the decision of the 1st meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee, the government officials and employees cannot be arrested without proper evidence in the cases filed by the families of martyrs in the student uprising or the aggrieved persons in various courts or police stations.

Apart from this, measures will be taken to withdraw the names of any officials or individuals if preliminary evidence of their involvement is not found before the investigation in July-August 2024 mass uprising-centered murders and other cases.

Incidentally, during the quota reform movement, most of the more than 300 cases of people killed in clashes were murder cases and attempted murder cases. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajib Wazed (Joy), former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Ministers and leaders of Awami League and district upazilas are in the list of accused in these cases.
