Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahidul Haque

The court has ordered former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahidul Haque to be sent to jail after seven days of remand.

On Wednesday (September 11) morning, after the seven-day remand, Shahidul Haque was produced in the court and requested to be detained in jail. In view of the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider ordered to send him to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akhtaruzzaman granted Shahidul Haque a seven-day remand last Wednesday (September 4) in the case of the murder of businessman Wadud in Newmarket area. At that time, the police applied to take him on 10-day remand for the sake of proper investigation of the case.

The media and public relations department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that Shahidul Haque was arrested from Uttara Sector 16 last Tuesday (September 3).

It should be noted that the Awami League government fell in the mass upsurge of students on August 5. Shahidul Haque was appointed as IGP on December 30, 2014 during the period of that government. He retired on 31 January 2018.
