International organizations have welcomed the education initiative of the Interim government

Dhaka: The representatives of UNICEF, UNESCO and UNFPA consider the current government's initiatives in the field of education to be realistic. They said that they are ready to provide any kind of assistance in the education sector. At the same time, they also urged an update the government's education policy 2010.

On Sunday (September 8) the representatives of the three organizations in a meeting with Planning and Education Adviser of the interim government Wahiduddin Mahmud expressed this commitment. A press release from the government informed that the meeting was held at the Planning Adviser's office in Sher-e- Banglanagar of the capital.

According to the notice, UN Interim Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh and Head of UNFP Agency in Bangladesh Christine Blokhus, UNESCO representative in Bangladesh Susan Vize and UNICEF Deputy Representative in Bangladesh Emma Brigham attended the meeting with the Adviser.

The representatives told the Education Adviser that they consider the current government's initiatives in the field of education to be realistic and that they are ready to provide any kind of assistance in the education sector. They emphasized on reforms in the education sector. They especially opined that education policy 2010 needs to be updated.

The Planning and Education Adviser told the delegation, "We are emphasizing on quality education. We welcome all kinds of cooperation from the United Nations and its specialized agencies in this regard.

In addition, a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a separate meeting with the Planning Adviser and pledged to continue Japan's support to the Interim government, according to a press release sent by the Adviser's public relations officer.

The delegation was led by Ichiguchi Tomohide, JICA's chief representative in Bangladesh, and senior representative Komori Takashi and senior representative Yamada Eiji.

According to the circular, the JICA delegation conveyed their support to the current Interim government and briefed the Planning Adviser on their development activities in Bangladesh.

Planning Adviser JICA thanked the delegates and expressed hope that Japan will continue to be Bangladesh's biggest development partner in the coming days as in the past.
