A Jubo League leader has been arrested by the Thana Police for his alleged involvement in the attack and shooting of students during the anti-discrimination movement from Hazaribagh in the capital.
The name of the arrested person is Shakil Hossain (30). He is the Vice President of Ward No. 34 Jubo League. Police arrested him from Hazaribagh last night along with weapons.
A revolver, a pistol, one round of bullets and spent revolver shells, two chapatis, two large pistols and a ram da were recovered from his house.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman gave this information at a press conference organized at DMP's media center on Minto Road in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
He said, during the anti-discrimination movement in July-August, the armed terrorists of Awami League and its organization attacked the protesting students in the area of Mina Bazar number 27 of Dhanmondi in the capital. Many students including Shahid Ali (27) were shot and seriously injured in the attack.
His own brother Sharif filed a case of attempted murder in Dhanmondi police station on September 3 in connection with Shahid's death.
Also, during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19, 2024, Awami League and its organization armed terrorists attacked the protesting students on the opposite side of Dhanmondi-15 Abahani ground. Hasnain Ahmed was killed. In this incident, a murder case was registered at Dhanmondi police station.
The accused in the two cases is Ward No. 34 Vice President of Jubo League. Shakil Hossain was arrested from Hazaribagh area by the Thana Police on the basis of intelligence information. At that time, revolver, pistol and local made weapons were recovered from his house.
During the preliminary interrogation, Shakil told the police that he used illegal firearms on student marches during the anti-discrimination student movement and shot innocent students in different areas including Dhanmondi.
He also said that a case under Arms Act has been filed against Shakil Hossain in Hazaribagh police station in connection with the recovery of arms. The arrested person has been sent to the court with a remand application to find out the information about those involved in the attack on the anti-discrimination movement.
