The metro rail, which was closed due to the anti-discrimination student movement, is going to open after almost a month. Metrorail will start running on a regular schedule from August 17. However, Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations will remain closed.
On Sunday (August 11), Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which is responsible for the construction and management of the metro rail, informed this information.
Earlier, the managing director of the company MAN Siddique said that the metro rail movement will start soon after the blank operation is over.
Siddique told Barta24.com that we are making full preparations for the metro. Trains must run for a few days before starting passenger transport. You can see the train moving. We call this blank operation. After this blank operation, the government will give a decision to run the train.
It is to be noted that when the movement started from July 6 for the permanent reform of quota in government jobs turned into violence at one stage, vandalism was carried out at two metro rail stations, Mirpur-10 and Kazipara. Since then, the authorities have announced suspension of metro rail movement for an indefinite period. After that, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that it is not possible to open these two metro stations even in a year. But Sheikh Hasina left the country in the face of a long march of students on August 5.
An interim government was formed headed by oNobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The interim government has already taken several steps to bring the situation back to normal. In their initiative, the authorities have decided to start the Metrorail initially by closing the two stations.
