This information was published in a report of Indian Express on Thursday (September 12).

According to the report, a few days ago, Adani Group asked Bangladesh to pay 800 million dollars for electricity arrears. After that the Interim government of Bangladesh decided to review the agreement.

According to the report, Bangladesh's Interim government is particularly keen to look into the terms of the deal and whether the price of electricity is reasonable.

A top official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said other businesses in India like the Adani Group would also be investigated. We must ensure that the contract is in accordance with local laws and regulations.

He further said that the main objective of this investigation is not to target Indian businesses. Rather, how much money Bangladesh is actually giving to Adani Power, whether it is reasonable, the answers to those questions will be sought.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Adani Power said, Bangladesh government is reviewing our PPA and we do not have any such information. We continue to supply electricity in the spirit of true partnership, even though we owe a huge amount of money to the Government of Bangladesh. We are in regular contact with them and requested for prompt payment of our dues because it is creating challenges in keeping our operations sustainable.

Note that Adani Power has been supplying electricity to Bangladesh under a 2017 agreement. They signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of 1,496 MW for 25 years. Apart from Adani, Indian companies PTC India, NVVL Limited and Semcorp Energy India supply electricity to Bangladesh.
