Bus falls into river in Nepal, 14 dead

At least 14 Indians were killed and 16 others injured when a passenger bus fell into a river in Nepal. The bus was carrying 40 passengers, all of them Indian nationals. They were going from Pokhra to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

This information was published in a report of Indian media NDTV on Friday (August 23).

According to reports, the bus which had left the capital Kathmandu for the tourist area of Pokhra, lost control and fell into the nearby Marsiangdi River after reaching an area called Tanahun.

A local police officer said that rescue operations are underway at the accident site on the river bank. The cause of the accident and the identity of the injured are yet to be ascertained.

Video footage from the accident site showed the damaged bus lying on the side of a river at the bottom of a mountain slope. Rescue workers are searching for survivors in the wreckage.

Earlier, on July 12, two buses were submerged in the river in the Simaltal area along the Narayanghat-Mugling road in Chitwan district of Nepal. A total of 65 passengers of those two buses went missing. Only 5 of them were found. 2 people are still missing.
