Government to take up master plan to face water crisis

From Jatiyo Sangsad Bhavan(Dhaka): The government has taken up a master plan to face water crisis . Water Resources State Minister Zahid Faruq informed the Jatiyo Sangsad(JS) that the government has taken up Bangladesh Delta plan-2100 to face the risks arisen out of the climatic change and natural disaster and to face the long term challenges.

The State Minister said that the government would take up 80 projects to implement by 2030 at an estimated cost of Taka 2 lakh 97 thousand 800 crore.

The Water Resources State Minister informed the JS in reply to a question raised by M. Abdul Latif MP on Tuesday(June18).

In another question of Nasimul Alam Chowdhury MP , the State Minister informed that under Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100 the first phase of excavating all derelict water bodies have been taken up by the Water Development Board. The implementation has begun from last December. Now in all 64 districts the process of taking up new schemes for excavation is going on.  

In reply to a question of Lutfunnessa Khan MP, Zahid Faruq informed that  to check river erosion in different areas of the country the government is taking measures on priority basis. To this object a master plan drafting is under process. Under this project 57 kilometers of erosion protection work by the side of three main rivers Jamuna, Ganges and Padma and 89 kilometers of flood protection embankment will be done. The project work beginning from 2014 at an estimated cost of Taka 867 crore 44 lakh is under process of implementation and likely to be completed by June of 2020. 

Two new projects of river erosion are under implementation process in the newly included enclave Patgram of Lalmonirhat upazilla and  Nazirganj and Doikhata enclaves of Boda upazilla.
