Faridpur district administration organized a program remembering rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his 124th anniversary of birth through holding discussion, recitation and musical soiree on Thursday evening.
In this connection on Thursday evening discussion meeting and cultural shows were held at local Kabi Jasimuddin hall .The discussion meeting on the rebel poet was chaired by ADC(Gen) Yasin Kabir while Deputy Commissioner(DC) of Faridpur Md. Quamrul Islam Talukdar PAA was the chief guest.
DC Md. Quamrul Islam Talukdar in his speech epitomized Nazrul not only as a poet but also mentioned that he waged a war of liberation through his writings by driving out the British colonial power from this sub-continent who had been oppressing the people by subjugating them as slave.
He mentioned that Nazrul had many similarities in action with our Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who also fought relentlessly against the Pakistani rulers who had been exploiting the Bangalees and their golden land.
DC further said that Nazrul not only inspired the people for waging movement against the foreign rulers but also was a great humanist and fought against the bigots, communalism, caste system and fanatics. He was a champion of humanism, DC said.
Speakers addressing the discussion said that the literary power of Nazrul was so vast that there was no corner of Bengali literature where he did not master it, including composing thousands of various songs. They termed Nazrul as a miracle of creation otherwise he could not become such a literary giant coming from an obscure position of society even who had no formal education.
A key-note paper was presented by District Education Officer Bishnupada Ghoshal.
The discussion was participated by Additional Police Super(Admin) Emdad Hossain, educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Shilpakala Academy Cultural Officer Shafinul Islam Milon and cultural activist Asma Akhtar Mukta.
The discussion meeting was followed by musical soiree based on Nazrul.
